A Beginner’s Guide To Rakija

Rakija

Rakija is the national drink of Serbia and a shot in the morning has been part of their culture for centuries. It is notorious for its high alcohol content. Rakija is a fruit brandy and you will find it almost anywhere in Serbia. The most popular variation is Sljivovica (plum). Rakija is not tequila and you shouldn’t shot it in one go. Instead, enjoy its rich taste in a few sips.

If you would like to take some home with you, an excellent store in Belgrade is Fino Vino. They also have some of Serbia’s finest wine and you can do tastings.
