Most Scenic Places In Wilsons Promontory National Park

Squeaky Beach

Wilsons Prom is on a Peninsula with rugged granite mountains and an abundance of wildlife. There are a variety of hiking trails. We loved it so much that we have been here twice. There are coastal walking paths that connect the many beaches. We mostly drove and we still covered around 22km. This is how we recommend you spend your time.

  2. Mount Oberon

  4. Lilly Pilly Rainforest Walk

  5. Prom Wildlife Walk

Big Drift

Big Drift is normally the last stop for visitors so we decided to go there early to avoid crowds. We also suggest looking at the wind forecast as it can be extremely windy. Generally the wind is calmer in the morning. The way to get there is a bit tricky if it’s your first stop. It’s located next to the entrance gate so after passing through we had to do a U-turn to get to the car park. Click here to view location on google maps. We walked along a forest path for 2km until we met a massive sand wall. We climbed up the steep sand dune. At the top, we were shocked when we saw the vast desert-like landscape. There were a few lone trees scattered around and impressive sand formations. In the distance, we could see the ocean and mountains.

Mount Oberon

Mount Oberon is the highest point and probably the most popular hike in Wilsons Prom as it was hard to find a park. The 3.4km winding ascent to the top took us approx. 1 hour. At the top we had incredible views of the coast.

Squeaky Beach

As the name suggests, the white sand squeaked when we kicked it which was very amusing. On the right side are enormous red boulders. We walked along the beach to the left side and found large rock platforms that we could walk across. From the beach we could see the islands sitting off the coast. The water is so clear even though there are waves.

Lilly Pilly Gully Circuit Walk

A flat 5.8km circuit walk. Throughout the rainforest we noticed the vegetation constantly changing. The best section is the boardwalk which is at the halfway point.

Prom Wildlife Walk

You are guaranteed to see wildlife. After walking for about 10 minutes, there was an open plain with many kangaroos and a wombat. We walked towards them but not too close as sometimes they can be aggressive.
