3 Best Things To See In Kathmandu

Getting Around

Thamel is the backpacker district and is a great area to explore by foot. I got hassled numerous times and approached by friendly locals wanting to have a chat. Some will try to take you to a gallery and force you to buy something. Venturing outside Thamel, I suggest booking a taxi through the hotel you're staying at.

  2. Swayambhunath 'Monkey Temple'

  3. The Garden of Dreams

Durbar Square

I arrived at the entrance point to Durbar Square and was amazed at the number of temples. After paying the entry you have a choice of exploring yourself or paying for a guide.

In one of the temples lives a Kumari (young Chinese princess) that appears rarely.

I went to the museum where they had a ‘Nine Storey Place’ which provided 360-degree views of the city.

Swayambhunath 'Monkey Temple'

To get to the top there was a steep climb up 350 stairs. At the top were great views of the city and a large temple. There were many monkeys fighting and trying to steal things.

The Garden of Dreams

The Garden of Dreams was peaceful compared to the chaos beyond the walls. The garden complex has 3 pavilions, an amphitheatre, ponds, pergolas, urns gardens and a swing. There are sections with cushions and mats to relax on.
