Top restaurants in Marrakech
If the chaos within the labyrinthine medina is too much, find a calm rooftop restaurant overlooking the city. We were blown away by the flavoursome food, rooftop views and interior designs.
The prices are very cheap for the quality provided. We ate delicious tajines and drank copious amounts of freshly squeezed orange juice. All meals are served with traditional Moroccan bread.
Most of our favourite restaurants are located around Rahba Kedima square. Jemaa el-Fnaa square has many overrated and overpriced restaurants.
Café des Épices
Café des Épices is must visit in the heart of the Marrakech souk. Located next to the most typical square in the Medina, Rahba Kedima. The rooftop provides an overview of the city and the market square.
The interior design of the building is traditional with red walls, wooden tables and woven reed umbrellas.
They offer simple salads, sandwiches, tajines, omelettes, desserts and drinks.
We liked this cafe so much we came here twice for a candlelit dinner. This place is very cheap and costs around 100 dirhams per person (10 Euro).
Open from 9am to 11pm
Atay Cafe
Atay Cafe is located in the heart of the medina with incredible city views from the rooftop. In the distance, we could clearly see the snowy peaks of the Atlas Mountains.
The French like interior design is impressive with white furniture that matches the balustrading, cosy lounges, desert plants and large woven reed lanterns that sway in the breeze.
This place is very cheap and costs around 100 dirhams (10 Euro) per person for food and a drink.
Open from 10am to 10pm
Nomad
Nomad is located near Rahba Kedima square.
It used to be an old carpet store. The restaurant is spread over 4 floors with 2 levels with terraces that provide amazing views of the medina and Atlas Mountains.
There is a focus on fresh produce with traditional local cuisine and international dishes with a Moroccan twist.
Expect to pay around 200 dirhams (20 Euro)
Open from midday to 11pm
Le Jardin
Le Jardin is a magical green oasis within a beautifully renovated 16th-century building. You enter through a small unassuming door and into a lush garden. Shiny green tiles cover the floor and some walls. The umbrellas, windows and doors are green. Even the plates match the green tiling.
The menu offers a choice of traditional Moroccan and European dishes.
On the terrace above, you can lounge and they occasionally show open-air projected classic films.
Expect to pay around 200 dirhams (20 Euro)
