The Ultimate Guide To The Best Beaches On Milos Island, Greece

Fyriplaka Beach Milos

Milos was our third stop, for 3 nights, on our 2 week Greek Island hopping trip. The landscapes on Milos are out of this world and we found some of the most beautiful beaches. Some beaches are only accessible by boat or challenging climbs. Other beaches we visited weren’t as good as what we had seen on Insta because seaweed had made the water dirty. This is how we recommend you spend your time here.

  1. Dinner at Oh Hamas

  2. Rent a boat at Poseidon

  3. Tsigrado Beach

  4. Fyriplaka Beach

  5. Sarakiniko Beach

  6. Papafragas beach

  7. Klima Village

  8. Venetian Castle

Where to stay?

We stayed at Arco Solium Suites near the centre of Adamas. In this modern beach style hotel we had a spacious room with 2 balconies. A delicious buffet breakfast was included.

How to get around?

Unlike the other islands we visited (Paros, Naxos, Santorini), we found it difficult to find a quad bike. So instead we hired a small car from Milos Rental for 37€ per day for 3 days. A lot of the island is only accessible with powerful motorbikes, this map should be shown and explained to you before renting a vehicle. We didn’t want to go to any of these areas so a car was good for us.

Where to eat?

After researching restaurants for dinner, we found Oh Hamas with many high star ratings. This family run traditional restaurant was outstanding with a large menu with fresh organic produce. We enjoyed our dinner so much that we went there twice. It gets very busy and you should reserve a table to avoid waiting. If you have to wait, they have a beach bar across the road.

Rent a boat

We hired a boat through Poseidon. We paid 230€ for a full day from 9am to 7pm. Petrol was another 70€. This was one of the highlights of our trip as we visited beaches only accessible by boat and were the only people on the beach sometimes. We didn’t need to have a boat licence and the boat was easy to operate. We started from Paralia Agia Kiriaki and headed West along the Southern Coast of Milos.

There is a variety of places to stop but we decided on these 3 after talking with the owner. The beaches can be hard to identify so he messaged us some satellite images of them.

Stop 1 - Gerakas Beach

Around the corner in the next cove was this calm bay with towering white cliffs. It only took us about 10 minutes to get here.

We didn’t see any underwater rocks and the sand was white and pristine. Little sand dune patterns formed on the seafloor which were easy to see through the crystal clear water.

We put the anchor down and swam into shore. We were the only people on the beach. We loved this pristine beach so much we stopped here again on the way back as the sun was setting.

Stop 2 - Kleftiko

It took us about 1.5 hours from the last stop.

A large bridge rock formation seperate the 2 coves. Both were busy with boats, drones and swimmers. Some small rubber boats drove through the caves. The rock formations were incredible with so many caves.

On the East cove the water is deep. We put the anchor down and went snorkelling around the cliff faces and through the tunnels.

Stop 3 - Sykia

It took us about 20 minutes to get here from our last stop. Our last stop before heading back was a collapsed cave on the west coast.

The owner told us that we could drive the boat through the tunnel and put the anchor down inside. We were very nervous and drove slowly in. There are many rocks under the water so we were cautious on where to drop the anchor. We put the anchor down on the left side of the cave as the water is deeper here and out of the way of other smaller boats wanting to venture further in. I jumped into the water to check that the anchor wasn't caught in between 2 boulders.

The boat was underneath the rock ceiling and occasioning some small sediment dropped off, luckily not on us.

The water is crystal clear and big rocks scatter the sea floor. Many large boulders sit above the water on the left, next to a small pebbled beach.

Tsigrado Beach

We woke up early and were the first to arrive here. To get down to this secluded cove we had to climb down 2 ladders. There is a rope that runs from the top to the bottom which helps. The first ladder is about 4 metres and after climbing down we had to walk through a narrow canyon for about 10 metres. The final ladder is even higher off the ground at about 6 metres. In the morning the small beach was in the shade and the water was murky with lots of seaweed in the water, so after a quick swim we climbed back up and had a short 800 metre drive to Fyriplaka.

Fyriplaka Beach

From the car park we were stunned with the view along the rugged coastline. The cliffs tower above the narrow beach and some areas you cannot enter due to the risk of rock falls. About half way along the beach is a stand alone cliff tower which is a cool spot for photography. There is a beach bar and we hired daybeds which cost us 20€. The water was so clear and shallow. We spent the whole day at Tsigrado and Fyriplaka and stayed to watch the magical sunset.

Sarakiniko beach

There is an easy downhill walk to this beach. We were there early in the morning but we were surprised at how busy it was. We were here in the morning and afternoon as it was too hot and not much shade.

This moonscape is very photogenic. There are so many great photo spots, it’s hard to say where the best is. The white wavy formations are unique and the direction of the sun determines the best place for photos.

The beach is split by a little cove. This cove is calm and shallow and a good spot to relax in the water. On the other side you can jump off the cliffs into the water. To get back, you need to swim into the collapsed cave and up the rocks. The rough waves didn’t stop some adrenaline seekers. If you keep walking along the coast there are little canyons which provide shade.

The most popular photo is of the rock bridge. Many couples take this photo with a tripod from the opposite side. However, I set up the tripod far away at the highest point to show the scale of this paradise, it almost looks like a drone shot. We were lucky that most people left the beach before sunset. This photo doesn’t work well for most of the afternoon as the sunlight glares off the ocean.

Papafragas beach

We had seen Papafragas beach on instagram and it looked amazing. We parked the car and had a short walk to the cliff edge where we could see down to the narrow beach. There was a big drop and the climb down was on a small steep path on the cliff face. We decided not to make the epic climb as the tide had pushed heaps of seaweed through the small cave entrance. The water was no longer clear as we had seen on Insta. There was another beach next to it but there was also lots of seaweed here.

Klima Village

This fishing village is the most colourful. Little double story buildings are right on the water in a single row. We had a lovely walk along the shore, checking out each house.

Klima Village

Firopotamos

Surrounded by rugged cliffs, this small picturesque village is both a fishing port and a beach. We walked to the end point and took this photo early in the morning. The water here is so clear and blue.

Venetian Castle

We had to leave Milos a day early due to a ferry strike. We would also have liked to visit the Venetian Castle at sunrise.
