How To Get Around Venice?

With no land-based vehicles, exploring Venice on foot is enjoyable and the easiest way. The city is a maze with something different around every corner. There are plenty of signs pointing you in the right direction. The Grand Canal winds through the city in an S shape and makes it easier to navigate. There are many bridges with stairs so it may be difficult if you have heavy luggage. Here are some other ways to get around Venice.

Gondola (traghetti)

The distances between bridges to cross the Grand Canal can be long. Therefore it's much quicker to get a gondola from the many stations along the Grand Canal. Many people will get onto the gondola for the quick trip across the canal. It costs €2 for tourists.

Water taxi

A quick but expensive way to travel. They are luxurious speedboats with leather seats and polished timber. If you are in a group of five, the price becomes more reasonable. Each additional person over five will cost €10.

Private Gondola Tour

Float down the narrow alleyways, under the Rialto Bridge and along the Grand Canal. Being so close to the surface of the water gives you a completely different perspective. The guide can explain the history as you pass the palaces that line the canals.
