5 Fun Activities On The Mornington Peninsula
The Mornington Peninsula region starts about 1 hour from Melbourne. There are many beautiful beaches and world class wineries. Point Nepean is at the end of the peninsula. This is how we recommend you spend your time here.
Peninsula Hot Springs
Sunny Ridge Strawberry Farm
Pt Leo Estate Winery
Cape Schanck
Moonlit Sanctuary
Peninsula Hot Springs
Soon after arriving in Melbourne, we drove to the Mornington Peninsula. What a better way to recover from a 24-hour flight, than relaxing at Peninsula Hot Springs. The natural thermal mineral pools are hidden around tree-lined corners, in caves and up stone steps. There is even a hilltop pool with a 360-degree view. Click here for more information and to book.
Sunny Ridge Strawberry Farm
We bought a container each and walked around the fields, picking the best strawberries we could find. Before leaving we enjoyed a delicious plate of strawberries, waffles and melted chocolate at the cafe.
Opening Hours: 9.00 - 17.00 everyday
Strawberry picking price: 500 grams for $10
Pt Leo Estate Winery
We came here for a wine and cheese tasting. We were impressed with the architecture and design, especially the waved concrete entrance. The restaurant and cellar door look out over the vineyards, sculpture park and ocean.
Cellar Door Opening Hours: 11.00 - 17.00 everyday
Wine tasting price: 5 wines for $10 (refunded upon wine purchase)

Cape Schanck
We parked the car near the lighthouse and followed the walking track. The path led us down to a volcanic rocky beach. The volcanic activity has formed black and orange rock formations.
Millionaires Walk
You can start this short walk at either Lentell Ave or Point King Road, in between Sorrento and Portsea. The path took us through the front yards of luxury residences. The only public beach access is at the end of Point King Road. The other beaches are for the residents and they have private piers for their boats.
Moonlit Sanctuary
The most anticipated activity here, was an encounter with a Koala. A childhood dream for Tammy. For the encounter, we patted the koala and fed it eucalyptus leaves. It was super cute and we couldn’t wipe the smiles off our faces. It was also Tammy’s first time seeing the other famous Australian animals including Wombats, Wallabies, Kangaroos, Kookaburras and Dingos. At the entrance, we purchased food for the Wallabies and Kangaroos. They roamed the sanctuary and came up to us for food. They ate from our hand and we were able to pat them as well. Occasionally a large flightless bird would try stealing the food. You can also book night tours. Click here for more information and to book.
Where we stayed?
We stayed at an Airbnb in Rye. This newly renovated retreat was a great base for us to explore the region.
Sorrento was 20 minutes away by car and has some excellent restaurants. We had a delicious breakfast at Boss’s Daughter and outstanding fresh seafood at The Baths. The Baths is located on the beach, on the road into Sorrento. Perfect for a dinner at sunset!
From Sorrento, you can get the 40 minute ferry to Queenscliff which is on the Bellarine Peninsula.
